Many of you will know that, after travel, food is my second love in life. As one of the many reasons I love travelling, food goes a long way in helping me decide which destinations to visit. New aromas, new tastes and new recipes to try when I get home all contribute to a fantastic trip.
So, when we were invited to experience a Bollywood themed VIP event at Bristol Audi to celebrate the launch and unveiling of the new Audi A7 and A8, I jumped at the chance to enjoy rich culture and delicious Indian fine dining.
A delight for the ‘Audi Senses’
Setting the tone for the evening, ‘Audi Senses’ guests were greeted at the door with Piper Heidsieck champagne cocktails. Mouth-watering canapes were served by City of Bristol College students throughout the evening including duck samosas and other stunning Indian bites, each one a mouthful of incredible flavour.
Aiming to immerse the senses of those attending the event, the evening focused on stimulating sight, sound, taste and smell through fabulous cooking demonstrations, awesome Dhol drumming displays and a Bollywood dance performance. Executive chef, Saravanan Nambirajan (The Mint Room, Bristol) and Tamarind-trained YouTube star, TV chef and authour, Hari Ghotra, took to the Chef’s Forum demo stage to captivate guests with impressive Indian cooking techniques, tips and tricks.
Stepping aside, the professionals gave way to Bristol Rovers’ and Bristol Rugby Club players in a light-hearted spice grind off, with more fantastic dance and drumming displays to follow.
Celebrating the latest in Audi technology, a show round of the Audi A7 and A8 commenced, detailing various safety and luxury features designed to delight and protect Audi passengers. A particular favourite of mine? The Audi R8 of course! It suits me, right?!
My second love in life
Indian cuisine is one of my favourite foods to cook at home. The spices, the aromas and the vibrant colours reward you almost instantly, resulting in a dish that is just bursting with flavour. I’m fortunate to have a husband who loves Indian food even more than I do and who eats just about anything I make, so I was eager to try the tips and tricks demonstrated on the stage myself.
But, of course, after a busy week at work, I don’t always feel like cooking up a storm in the kitchen. And that’s where Indian fine dining restaurant, The Mint Room, comes in. The South West provides the perfect gateway to The Mint Room, with the Bath and Bristol locations combining Indian culinary flair with elegant, high-end decor (and a Piper Heidsieck Rooftop Champagne Bar to boot). If the canapes served at the Audi Senses event were anything to go by, I’ll be making a special trip to soak up the full experience.
Ultimately, travel is always going to be my first love but who says I can’t combine my love of adventure with my love of food. After all, travelling the world through food is the perfect way to cure the holiday blues and transport yourself to far-flung places!
